How to Use the Eye Chart from our Eye Care Center

To use the eye chart from our eye care center, download the chart onto your desktop, laptop or tablet and print the chart. Tape the chart to a wall at your eye level.

Next, step back 10 feet and pick out the smallest line you can read. You can have a friend or family member point to certain lines and tell you if you read the letters correctly. Then, test your eyes individually by covering one eye, reading the chart then covering the other.

All you need to do is calibrate the distance from the screen and measure the height of any character on 20/20 line on-screen using a ruler. Once the input of the values have been done manually, our Online Eye Test chart gets resized automatically according to the prescribed size. Minimum distance of 2 metres from the screen is recommended for you to take this test. This in turn can help you know the optimum distance for positioning the 20/20 scale.

In case you currently wear prescription glasses, you will have to take the test with and without glasses to get an indication if your current prescription is accurate.

2. Position yourself at least 1 metre away from your computer screen (Can be more), facing it directly towards you.

4. Measure the height of any character from the 20/20 line appearing on the screen using a ruler.

5. Submit the data and see the chart resizing automatically as per the calibration.

6. Cover your left eye (if you wear glasses for distance vision, keep them on)

7. Have another person point to each line as you read the letters out loud and keep track of which letters you get right

8. Continue to the bottom row or until you can no longer read the letters

<9. Write down the number of the smallest line where you identified the majority of letters correctly (Ex./ If you were able to read 5 out of 8 letters on line 8, you would write 20/20.)10. Cover the right eye now and repeat the steps above.What Do the Results Mean?That depends on the age of the person being tested. A 3 to 4-year-old should be able to read the 20/40 line, and a 5-year-old the 20/30 line. Older children and adults should be able to read the majority of letters on the 20/20 line.If you notice any results that fall outside these standards, make sure to schedule an eye exam with your Ophthalmologist.

Important Note

Though the test is designed to give you an idea of how good your eyesight is, it’s important to have an optometrist give you a proper eye examination every two years. They will be able to give you a more exact test clinically, in addition to testing for other medical complications like glaucoma and cataracts.
